Essar Steel Algoma is committed to the health and safety of its employees without compromise and to the safety of all people contracted to work within Algoma.  To this end, the Company employs a cooperative Joint Health and Safety System to provide Algoma's employees with a healthy and safe workplace.  This process utilizes joint health and safety committees with representation from both local unions and department management to develop safety procedures, investigate accidents and injuries, and monitor health and safety at all levels of the organization.

Essar Steel Algoma is a proud member of the Sault Ste. Marie Safe Communities Partnership, an organization dedicated to making Sault Ste. Marie the safest place to live, learn, work and play.  Representatives from the Company and the USWA actively serve on the partnership's board of directors.
